If we were to do a
survey about how many of us feel happy with
our bodies, what percent do you think would
answer 'Yes'?
Recent research on body figure shows that
women are much more serious of their appearance
than men. Up to 8 out of 10 women are disappointed
with their bodies.
Again, I keep coming back to the media and
it's influence on our thinking; the beliefs
we create because of it. Every day we watch
TV programs with their good looking actors,
or read fashion magazines picturing top
models. How can we not finish up feeling
insufficient in judgment? We compare our
looks to those of actors and models, and
then feel unpleasant because we are not
as skinny, or do not have the same straight
nose, or the same hair, or big eyes et cetera.
We don't recognize how many plastic surgery
processes the models may have gone through,
or how the photos are touched up and airbrushed,
or how lots of actors and models feel the
want to be malnourished themselves to maintain
their required body weight. The models show
to have it all because of their beauty,
but in fact do we know if they are glad?
Would you be happy if millions of people
were judging your body on TV screen or in
magazines? Would you be happy if you infrequently
got to eat?
It is estimated that young ladies today
see more images of extraordinary beautiful
women in one day than their mothers saw
throughout their entire teenage years. No
wonder there are so many commercials for
weight loss wonder pills and immediate diet
plans. We see 'before' and 'after' photographs
that guide us to believe our lives will
be ideal if we can just loose the weight.
Then we will be attractive, right?
Again, what they do not inform us is that
lots of the people in those 'wonder' weight
loss ads get paid pretty handsomely to loose
weight, and are even using other process
beside the product publicized. And they
do not inform us how many of these people
achieve the weight back and then some after
the diet is finished.
These companies spend millions of dollars
on advertising work out new ways of attracting
people to their product. The most effective
marketing method is to make you feel inadequate,
and then offer you an 'easy' weight loss
technique.
So do be conscious of the big, bad advertising
monsters that make you feel like you have
to look a confident way to be a valuable
person.
Chances are, you have friends or families
who are really not overweight, but still
say they want to loose some weight. The
question you may ask then is, if they want
to loose weight, do you also want to loose
weight? Should not you too be miserable
with your body? It seems like the weight
to be skinny never ends.
But dieting can speedily lead to an eating
confusion, and that is the last thing you
ever want to suffer. Just ask some person
who ended up in the hospital for undernourishment.
The reality is, eating too much is generally
caused by emotions. You may observe that
when you feel tired, angry or lonely, you
reach for a cookie or one more slice of
pizza.
Next time you are eating, ask yourself the
question, 'Am I eating because I feel starving
or is there any more reason?' If you eat
only when you feel hungry, your weight will
regulate itself to where it should be.
Eat a variety of foods, and make fruits
and veggies part of your daily food eating.
If you are not already doing so, find an
activity that you enjoy. It might take a
few tries for you to find the activity that
fits you best, but keep looking. Being physically
active will help you feel improved about
your body.
Unluckily, some sports these days do cost
a lot of money, which can make a big problem
for adolescence. If that is the case, there
are other ways to maintain your body fit.
Going away for walks with your dog (or your
friends), go bicycling, play Frisbee, jump
rope, just get moving. Even cutting down
the lawn is good work out, and you may also
be able to charge for it and make some money
on the side!
